2013 Gnome Nominations

The Gnome Committee is looking to the community to give them recommendations for the Dawson Gnome. The person you select to be honored should be someone who has served the community and his/her fellowmen in an exemplary way over the years, exerting a positive influence on the growth and well being of the community as a whole; as well as each individual member. He/she may have achieved a specific honor, but that is not the determining factor to become an honoree. Often our Gnome puts the service to others before personal gain or comfort and gives generously of time, talent and resources without recognition.
If you would like to recommend a nominee for 2013 there are forms at participating businesses in Dawson or nominations can also be sent via email to the Gnome Committee. Be sure to include the person(s) name, why you think they should be a nominee and your first and last name.
(Forms will not be accepted without a signature. Emails can be sent to the Gnome Committee at homeofthegnome@hotmail.com)

Greater Mn Ag Day and JMHS Health & Safety Fair

Mark your calendars! The annual JMHS Health & Safety Fair and the Dawson Area Chamber of Commerce Greater Mn Ag Day is set for Wednesday, March 20th from 10am-2pm at the Dawson-Boyd Community Center with lunch being served from 11am-1pm.

Brett Olson from Renewing the Countryside will be hosting a Farm Transitions workshop at 1pm at the high school. Topics will include the family dynamics involved during a transition and how to begin the process of communicating the farmer’s goals and hopes for the farm’s future. Attorney, Rick Stulz, will also be on hand to answer questions involving any legal aspects. Linda Brekke of the Linder Farm Network will be joining us during the Midday Farm Review and the LqP Co-op Fertilizer plant will also be having their annual Bin Days at their offices that day. With all that is going on we are anticipating a large turnout at this year’s event!

The Johnson Memorial Health & Safety Fair also has a lot going on! Many different departments from JMHS will have booths focusing on improving our community’s health. We will have Julie Olson, FNP-PA available to speak about lowering cholesterol and herbal over the counter medicines. In addition we will be providing FREE Blood Pressure Checks and facial scans with the Derm-a-Scanner. The Derm-a-scanner reveals sun damage on skin.
